This week was not so good good for my journey to 1st on Google. I stayed at the #2 spot for my first occurrence which is good, but lost a ton of ground in the other places. Since LinkedIn occupies the 1st spot, it will be tough to overcome such a large site but that is my goal and I will keep at it until I’m there. Overall, my top 5 results decreased 41 places with all spots either the same or down for the week. I showed up 6 times in the top 100 search results with the last occurrence being my Google+ profile at #100.
I am a bit disappointed this week. I am pleased about remaining at #2 but with the big drop this week, I am not as confident with my strategies than are in place.
Strategies for 1st
This week I stepped up my commenting a little, finding 12 relevant posts to comment on. Part of this commenting strategy that I implemented this week was to look at the blogs I follow, determine the best PageRank of the websites and focus some time reading past posts and commenting. To find the PageRank, I used this web site. Commenting on other blogs is a long term strategy so we will wait and see if this is effective.
I have began tagging the links, YouTube videos, and other information I have submitted to social networking sites with my name as well. Sites such as Delicious (social bookmarking), StumbleUpon (social bookmarking), and YouTube (videos) all offer the chance to tag submissions. I submit my personal blog posts (BlueCapra.com) and my business blog posts (BookWormLaser.com) to the social bookmarking sites and the videos to YouTube. The videos I create are for a series called Can You Etch It where I laser engrave strange, unique, and even common items.

Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make a good amount of progress so far, going from #93 on 1-25-12 to #2 on 3-4-12. That’s an 91 place improvement in 39 days. In all fairness, Alan Reeves is probably not the most sought after keyword on the internet. Nevertheless, the concepts can be used as building blocks for your own SEO journey.
Stay tuned to see if next week is the week I reach the 1st spot on Google. If you have any suggestions to get me there, leave a comment and let me know.
