Strategies for 1st
As I keep hoping the results of the past few weeks were a fluke, I have come to the realization that I gotta get my rear in gear and start doing something. It has been difficult to figure out what works.
The old tried and true commenting on websites still works but it takes a lot of work. You can “create great content” and everyone will link to you (provided you promote yourself enough or someone more well known promotes you). You can buy links, buy expired domains with high PR rankings and link to your site, guest post, ask for links, and on and on. But, what works? What can an average person do to help their reputation and get found online?
That is the question. Over the past 88 weeks, I’ve signed up for tons of social media websites, commented on tons of sites, created content (although I’m not sure how great any of it is…), added structured data, and on and on. Some of it has worked, most has had little effect but taken together, all of the work for the past 600+ days has combined to get me to where I am now. Now, I just have to do the work to get to the next level.
Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make good progress since the start, going from #91 on 1-25-12 to #1 on 7-14-13 and to #12 today. I have learned a lot about improving search ranking and I have made a lot of mistakes, but it’s a learning process. Stay tuned to see if I can hold on to the 1st spot on Google and reach 1st on Bing.
