Welcome back to my journey to being 1st on Google. If you missed the first few posts, you can find the first one here, 8th Week update here, and the ones in between on my Project page. Below are the results as of Sunday, 03-18-12 (click here to do your own search):
- #4 – My LinkedIn profile (up 12 places from last week at #16)
- #12 – My profile on Vimeo – check out my video series Can You Etch It (up 5 places from last week at #17)
- #32 – The About Me page from my personal blog, BlueCapra.com, with picture (no change from last week at #32)
- #34 – The post, How Would You Use a MeTag™? from CoachRadio.tv about one of my laser engraving products, the MeTag™ (up 6 places from last week at #40)
- #59 – BlueCapra.com tag page; posts tagged ‘Alan Reeves’ (up 28 places from last week at #87)
This week showed a nice turnaround from last week. My first occurrence is at #4 and overall, my top 5 results increased 51 places. I showed up 6 times in the top 100 search results, which is not as high as I had hoped, but not as bad as it could be.
Strategies for 1st
With the horrible showing for the last update, I decided to do a little experiment and basically, do nothing. No blog commenting, no articles published, nothing. I was curious how much of what I was doing really affected the results week by week. It seems the work I am doing toward 1st place has an effect just not an immediate effect.
I have been doing a fair amount of reading this past week looking for new strategies. One interesting bit of info that I came across was from Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income. He did a series of posts for a Niche Site duel where he and Tyrone Shum built sites from scratch, ranked them 1st on Google, and monetized those sites. Check out the post entitled Consumable Content – Smart Passive Income for the links and more information. Pat goes into great detail on those posts and his site in general to tell how he accomplishes his results. Some of the techniques I don’t agree with, but time will tell what I will able to apply to my journey.
The interesting bit of info that I came across was that it took Pat 73 days to reach 1st on Google. I am at 68 days and within that time, I have hit the #2 spot. Still have some work to do and will continue looking for techniques to apply.
Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make a good amount of progress so far, going from #93 on 1-25-12 to #3 on 3-11-12 even though I have slipped to #4. I have learned a lot about improving search ranking and I have made a lot of mistakes, but this is a learning process. I hope to make significant progress by next week and regain my past progress. Stay tuned to see if next week is the week I reach the 1st spot on Google. If you have any suggestions to get me there, leave a comment and let me know.
