Are you an Instagrammer (Instagram user, Instagrammerite, Instagramist)? According to Instagram, there are over 130 million active monthly users and over 45 million photos being shared every day. Compare that to the population of the US (a bit over 316 million according to the Census Bureau) Of course, not everyone in the US uses Instagram and not all Instagram users are in the US but just compare the numbers.
Taken just the numbers, over one third of the population of the US uses Instagram on a monthly basis. That is amazing, simply amazing.
But, who owns your photos? When you get traffic to your pictures, does it help your personal or company brand?
For those of us that have our own websites (especially one as small as this one…), we want visitors. We want people to visit our site, read our words, oohh and aahh at our pictures, and so on. By sharing our content on other sites (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, etc) we get some visitors but it’s always a challenge. This is especially true when most of your content (in the case of pictures) are housed on someone else’s site. Luckily, now we have Pressgram.
Say hello to my little friend… Pressgram
Pressgram is an iOS app that applies filters to your photos and shares them in several ways. It will post the pictures to your Pressgram feed, Facebook, Twitter, and your own blog. Automatically generating and publishing a post on my blog is the feature that got my attention.
Suddenly, sharing pictures online was easy but more importantly, the pictures were on my site, not someone else’s site. But, would it work? How many times have you heard about some great app that turns out to be crap? Especially free ones. After receiving an email update that it was available, I ran (well, I let my fingers do the running) to the iTunes store and downloaded Pressgram.
The jury is still out on Pressgram but so far, I like it. It was easy to setup even though the controls were a little quirky in my opinion (they may have made sense to someone more familiar with iPhones; I’ve only had one for the past year or so). After a few trials to get everything squared away, my first Pressgram post went live here and on Facebook. Here is what it looked like on Facebook:
The first part of the post is a promotional link to the photo on Pressgram. The rest of the post looks just about as expected. Click here to check out what it looks like as a post. The Pressgram link at the bottom is an optional promotional link to spread the word about this great app.
In the coming weeks, Pressgram will get better as bugs are worked out and more people will take advantage of its features. It will be interesting to see how many people will adopt Pressgram, abandon other photo sharing options, start sharing more pictures, etc. There is sure to be some changes in the photo sharing world soon.
What do you think? Is Pressgram the next evolution of photo sharing? Is it merely a fad that will never last (like the internet…)?
How will you use Pressgram in your online strategy?
wow, thanks so much for this honest review! i’m working hard at making it better. appreciate your support!
