Welcome back to my journey to being 1st on Google. This is the 91st update for my attempt to rank first for my name, Alan Reeves. Below are the results as of Sunday, 10-20-13 (click here to do your own search for Alan Reeves on Google):
- #13 – My Vizify profile (down 10 places from last week at #3)
- #15 – My About page on BlueCapra (down 3 places from last week at #12)
- #17 – My Vimeo profile (down 3 places from last week at #14)
- #19 – My Twitter handle, @AlanReeves (down 3 places from last week at #16)
- #23 – My Blogger site (down 4 spots from last week at #19)
This week I’m back on the front page at #9. Overall, my top 5 results decreased 23 places with 5 of the top 5 results occurring in the first 25 places. As a whole, I showed up 17 times in the top 100 search results.
A check at Google Images showed my picture at #4 and a total of 23 occurrences in the top 100 images, which I think is a new record.
Cornering the market – from Google to Bing
In addition to searching Google, I have been checking Bing results for my name, Alan Reeves (click here to do your own Bing search for Alan Reeves). Here are the top 5 Bing results:
- #5 – My LinkedIn profile with picture (no change from last week at #5)
- #6 – My Twitter handle, @AlanReeves (up 6 places from last week at #12)
- #10 – My Quora page (up 3 places from last week at #13)
- #19 – My BrandYourself profile (down 1 place from last week at #18)
- #27 – My About.Me page (up 3 places from last week at #30)
This week I’m at #5 on Bing. Overall, my top 5 results increased 11 places with 4 of the top 5 results occurring in the first 25 places. As a whole, I showed up 11 times in the top 100 search results.
A check at Bing Images showed my picture at #12 and a total of 5 occurrences in the top 100 images.
Strategies for 1st
Nothing interesting to report for this week. The results seem to be going up and down for no reason. Chances are good that the same search performed at different times during the day will result in widely different results. That makes sense to a point (new content being published all the time) but having certain pages jump from the top 5 or so spots down to the teens and back again is hard to understand. Oh well…
Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make good progress since the start, going from #91 on 1-25-12 to #1 on 7-14-13 and to #3 today. I have learned a lot about improving search ranking and I have made a lot of mistakes, but it’s a learning process. Stay tuned to see if I can hold on to the 1st spot on Google and reach 1st on Bing.
