Welcome back to my journey to being 1st on Google. This is the 89th update for my attempt to rank first for my name, Alan Reeves. If you missed any of the posts, you can find the first one here, 88th Week update here (last week), and the ones in between on my Project page. Below are the results as of Sunday, 10-6-13 (click here to do your own search for Alan Reeves on Google):
- #9 – My Twitter handle, @AlanReeves (up 3 places from last week at #12)
- #14 – My Vizify profile (down 1 place from last week at #13)
- #16 – My About page on BlueCapra (down 1 place from last week at #15)
- #18 – My Vimeo profile (no change from last week at #18)
- #27 – My Pinterest profile (down 8 places from last week at #19)
This week I’m back on the front page at #9. Overall, my top 5 results decreased 7 places with 4 of the top 5 results occurring in the first 25 places. As a whole, I showed up 16 times in the top 100 search results.
A check at Google Images showed my picture at #5 and a total of 13 occurrences in the top 100 images.
Cornering the market – from Google to Bing
In addition to searching Google, I have been checking Bing results for my name, Alan Reeves (click here to do your own Bing search for Alan Reeves). Here are the top 5 Bing results:
- #7 – My LinkedIn profile with picture (down 3 places from last week at #4)
- #10 – My Twitter handle, @AlanReeves (up 2 places from last week at #12)
- #12 – My BrandYourself profile (up 1 place from last week at #13)
- #14 – My YouTube profile (up 6 places from last week at #20)
- #20 – My profile on 48Days.NET (up 1 place from last week at #21)
This week I’m at #5 on Bing. Overall, my top 5 results increased 7 places with 5 of the top 5 results occurring in the first 25 places. As a whole, I showed up 11 times in the top 100 search results.
A check at Bing Images showed my picture at #8 and a total of 6 occurrences in the top 100 images.
Strategies for 1st
This week I focused on improving my Dribbble and Pinterest profiles. They have been doing pretty well for me recently so I thought I’d try to focus on them a bit. This week I’ll add in Behance and continue to work on Dribbble and Pinterest. These sites are great because I can hopefuly get ideas for products and other stuff while I recognize the work of others.
Also, I’m finding it increasingly hard to find time to read and comment on posts. I still listen to a bunch of podcasts but by the time I get to where I can take notes or comment, most of the great information is in my subconscious not to be retrieved by my conscious efforts.
Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make good progress since the start, going from #91 on 1-25-12 to #1 on 7-14-13 and to #12 today. I have learned a lot about improving search ranking and I have made a lot of mistakes, but it’s a learning process. Stay tuned to see if I can hold on to the 1st spot on Google and reach 1st on Bing.
