This week I’m at #2 on Google!!!!!  Overall, my top 5 results increased 68 spots with 5 of the top 5 results occurring in the first 25 places.  What a comeback!  As a whole, I showed up 11 times in the top 100 search results. [Read more…]

My WordPress How-to: Learning Shortcodes

If you use WordPress as your website framework, you have probably used shortcodes even if you have never heard of them.  A shortcode is a bracketed code that you can insert into a post to perform a particular function.  For example, if you have an image gallery on one of your posts, it was likely created using a short code.

In this post, I will walk you through setting up your own shortcode and give several examples of how they could be used.

For my particular issue, I needed about a paragraph of text and a few links to show up on certain posts.  There are plugins, such as Bottom of Every Post, that will put the text or code just at the title suggests, at the bottom of every post, but I needed something a little more selective.  Before creating my own shortcode, I just copied the text I wanted and pasted it into 10 different posts.  Worked great, unless I ever wanted to change the wording. My WordPress How-to: Changing a Password

Wp-config-sample.php from WordPressYou can really mess up your WordPress website.  If you don’t know what you are doing, things can go from bad to worse very quickly, especially if you go changing your password.  I was trying to figure out a strange issue that resulted in my site title showing up twice when a post was shared on Facebook.  It ended up being how I structured the permalink (I think…), but that is another story.  I had the bright idea to go into the database administration and have a look around.  It was then the problems started.
