Strategies for 1st
This week I decided to try a new strategy with some of the social media accounts I don’t focus on. For these nine accounts, I added a link to my Blogger profile while removing all the other links from that profile. This will, in theory, focus all of the authority from those other profiles to the Blogger profile.
On my Blogger profile, I have used a technique suggested by several people (most recent in my memory, Alex Becker from Source Wave) where you link the first page on the profile only to a second page, the second page only to the third page, the third page to the fourth, and the fourth to your site and back to the first page. This may not be his exact technique, but it is not too far off. As long as the content is relevant to your keywords (and even that is not absolutely necessary according to Becker), you will built authority.
So, I now have nine social media profiles that all link to my Blogger front page, that links to the second page, that links to the third page, that links to the fourth page, that links to week 78 of this series and back to the front Blogger page. These things usually take a few weeks to take effect in the search results so hopefully, we should see some good progress this coming week.
Summary – The search for Alan Reeves
I’ve been able to make good progress since the start, going from #91 on 1-25-12 to #1 on 7-14-13 and to #13 today. I have learned a lot about improving search ranking and I have made a lot of mistakes, but it’s a learning process. Stay tuned to see if I can hold on to the 1st spot on Google and reach 1st on Bing.
